NAWABSHAH, Aug 14 A group of flood victims who reached Nawabshah from Shikarpur were sent out of the district by the administration here on Saturday.

When some families coming from Shikarpur reached a relief camp established at the government girls high school on the Court Road, revenue and police officials asked them to immediately leave the city because they were not allowed to stay in Nawabshah.

Kamil Shar, an elderly man from Khanpur near Shikarpur, told Dawn that his family and relatives had left the area after the flood, but he was very upset that they were being forcibly sent out of Nawabshah.

Another victim, Ghulam Shabbir Shar, said that he had lost all valuables and had no other way than to shift his family. But he was shocked to notice the threatening attitude of government officials.

When asked, police said that they had been called by the revenue department for help, but officials of the revenue department fled after removing the banner of relief camp from the school building.

The flood victims were not allowed even to unload their goods from the truck and were forced to leave the city and move towards Hyderabad or Karachi.

When contacted, DO (revenue) Zahoor Hussain Gujjar said that flood-hit people were free to stay in schools which were declared relief camps and he was not aware of any such incident.

District Coordination Officer and Administrator Shaheed Benazirabad Jamal Mustafa Syed said that the internally displaced people (IDPs) were asked to shift to Jamshoro and Karachi because they needed to be registered there as per government policy.

He said that the district administration could make arrangements for stay of IDPs only in the camps established in Sakrand and Qazi Ahmed talukas.

However, he added, it was preferable that the people coming from other districts to move to Jamshoro and Karachi because they needed to adjust the local IPDs in the camps first.

He said that the IPDs would get benefit after they were registered at the camps established in Jamshoro and Karachi and it would also benefit them in getting their due compensation.

He said that he would surely take action against the misbehaviour or rude attitude of revenue officials and police if it was proved.
