KARACHI, March 20: After two gruelling days of table tennis, University of Karachi earned the right to meet University of Punjab, in the 35th Pakistan Inter Universities Table Tennis Championship for Women on Thursday.

University of Karachi downed B.Z. University 3-0, while University of Punjab also beat Sindh University, Jamshoro by an identical margin.

Sindh University, Jamshoro, went on to bag the third spot, after beating B.Z. University 3-2.

In the matches played on the opening day in Group A, Sindh University, Jamshoro beat Peshawar University 3-0, with Shabana beating Munazza 3-1, Ishrat beating Asma 3-0 and Hina beating Ayesha 3-0.

Peshawar University received another setback, going down tamely to University of Karachi 3-0. For the winners, Sana Qaiser had an easy 3-0 victory over Munazza. The same could be said about Sunaina, who whizzed past Asma 3-1, while Najia Khan overwhelmed Huma Kanwal 3-0. University of Karachi then went on to top the group by registering a 3-0 triumph over Sindh University.

Following were the results:

Najia Khan beat Shabana 3-1, Saida Yaseen beat Ishrat 3-0 and Benish Ameer beat Hina 3-0.

In Group B, in a match that went the full distance, NED University edged out Fatima Jinnah University 3-2. Following were the results.

Saima (Fatima) beat Amber Irfan (NED) 3-0, Kanwal Naz (NED) beat Saira (Fatima) 3-0, Safia (Fatima) beat Hina Manzoor (NED) 3-0, Kanwal Naz (NED) beat Saima 3-0, Amber Irfan (NED) beat Saira 3-0. University of Punjab coasted past B.Z. University, Multan 3-0, with Ayesha Iqbal beating Shafugta Hafeez 3-0, Shama Naz beating Farah Naz 3-0 and Ammara Khan beating Shabana Qamar 3-0.

University of Punjab then went on to rout Fatima Jinnah University, Rawalpindi 3-0, with Shama Naz beating Shafia 3-0, Ayesh Iqbal beating Saima 3-0 and Ammara Khan disposing off Hina, by an intentical margin. Then registering their third win a row, after downing Fatima Jinnah University 3-0, University of Punjab then perched themselves on top in Group B, by sounding another 3-0 victory, this time over NED University Karachi. Ayesha Iqbal beat Amber Irfan 3-1, Ammara Khan beat Kanwal Naz 3-2 and Mehwish beating Hina Manzoor 3-0.

In another match played in Group B, B.Z. University Multan defeated Fatima Jinnah University, Rawalpindi 3-1. Shabana Qammar (BZ) beat Shafia (Fatima) 3-1, Saima (Fatima) beat Farah Naz (BZ) 3-0, Shagufta Hafeez (BZ) beat Hina (Fatima) 3-0 and Farah Naz (BZ) beat Safia (Fatima) 3-0. B.Z. Univeristy registered their second triumph after beating NED University Karachi 3-1. Shabana Qammar (BZ) beat Kanwal Naz (NED) 3-1, Farah Naz (BZ) beat Hina Manzoor (NED) 3-1, Amber Irfan (NED) beat Shagufta Hafeez (BZ) 3-0 and Kanwal Naz (NED) 3-0.

In the first semi-final played on Thursday, University Of Punjab, Lahore beat Sindh University, Jamshoro 3-0. Ayesha Iqbal beat Ishrat 3-0, Shama Naz beat Shabana 3-0 and Ammara Khan beat Hina 3-0. In the second semi-final, University of Karachi cruised past B.Z. University Multan 3-0. Sadia Yaseen beat Shabana Qammar 3-0, Sadia beat Farah Naz 3-0 and Najia Khan accounted for Shagufta Hafeez, also by a 3-0 scoreline.

In an action packed thriller for third position, Sindh University finally got the better B.Z. University 3-2. Shabana Qammar (Sindh) beat Shabana Qaisar (BZ) 3-0. Ishrat (Sindh) beat Farah Naz (BZ) 3-1. Shaguftta Hafeez (BZ) beat Hina (Sindh) 3-0. Farah Naz (BZ) beat Shabana Qammar 3-0. Ishrat (Sindh) beat Shabana Qaisar (BZ) 3-0.
