NAWABSHAH, Sept 20 Different areas of the city are facing an acute shortage of water for the last one and half month due to technical fault at the city's water supply station which has been receiving low voltage.

Residents of Manuabad, Essarpura, Pak Colony, Phatak road, Katchehry road, Camp No 2, Mariam road, Jam Sahab road, Hussaini road, Gharibabad, Ghulam Rasool Shah colony, Otaq Quarters and Hospital road are experiencing difficulties due to non-availability of

Water.Gajrah Wah (canal) is the main source of water supply to the city and it supplies almost five million gallon of water to 65 per cent parts of the city daily.

The problem occurred when Hyderabad Electric Supply Company discontinued the power supply to a large area of Old Nawabshah from Dadu grid station and hooked up the system with Mirpurkhas.An official requesting anonymity told Dawn that there had been a problem of low voltage at water pumping stations, however, it was not frequent. But, he added, there had been problems with the turbines and machines pumping water for supplying to the city.

“We have lodged complaints with the municipal authorities several times, however, there was no improvement, said Irfan Ali, a resident of Essarpura. Another resident Kumail Rizvi said that whenever he opened tap for water, either there was no water or if at anytime there was water, it was brackish and filthy.

“Our families were suffering as water is the most essential requirement for every human being. We have been requesting TMA for proper supply but in vain,” said Jawad Ahmed from Mariam road.

Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, Coordinator to MNA Faryal Talpur, maintained that he had taken up the matter with Hesco high ups and urged them to ensure proper supply of electricity to the city so water may be supplied without any interruption.

Nawabshah Taluka Municipal Administrator Nawaz Ali Domki said that the TMA was under severe pressure due to short supply of water. He said that the problem was due to low voltage and no improvement was being observed despite several complaints to the concerned officials.

Media manager of Hesco Mohammed Sadiq Kubar said that Nawabshah-II grid station (old Nawabshah) was being provided power from Mirpurkhas due to a technical fault at 132kv Dadu grid station.

He said that if the supply continued from Dadu, many feeders would trip which might increase the problem so alternate supply was given to Nawabshah.

He said that the technical fault at Dadu would be removed in a couple of days after which Nawabshah-II grid station would be provided supply from Dadu.

Executive Engineer, Hesco, Nawabshah, Saeed Ahmed Dawach, said that there was no any issue of low voltage. He said that the motors and capacitors of the TMA's water supply stations were non-functional which caused water shortage.
