KARACHI, March 20: Water crisis continues to persist in various parts of the city for the fourth consecutive day on Thursday.

The worst affected localities include different parts of the Old City area, such as Ramswami, Bhimpura, Ratan Talao, Ranchorre Lines, North Karachi’s sectors 5-C/2, 5-C/3, 5-D and 7-D; Mehmoodabad, Shershah and the SITE industrial area.

Besides, complaints of persisting water shortage have also been received from residents of Baldia, Orangi and Surjani.

The residents of the affected townships said it was beyond their comprehension why officials of the city government’s water and sanitation department have not yet be able to improve their supply despite arrival of water from the Hub source.

The water and sanitation department had also been diverting Indus water and had introduced weekly water-holiday in the areas hooked to the Indus source.

According to a Nazim of Orangi Town’s union council, the worst affected areas include Islam Chowk, Pakistan Bazaar, Block ‘L’, Ghausia Colony, Benazir Colony, Aziz Nagar, Thorani Goth, Bangla Bazaar, parts of Sector 14, Baloch Colony, Makhdoom Shah Colony, Bismillah Colony, Bijli Nagar, Bewa Quarters, Madina Colony, Millat Colony and Warsia Colony.

Similar complaints have been received from Saeedabad.

Meanwhile, the localities which went dry on Thursday include Landhi, Korangi, DHA, National Refinery, Karachi Port Trust and Pakistan Railways.

CLOSURE: The localities which would go dry on Friday include Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s blocks 3, 4, 5, 7, 10, 10-A, 13-A, 13-B, 16, 17 and 18.
