LARKANA, Oct 10 The federal government is determined at resuming the development work under the Larkana Package in a couple of weeks, said chairman Senate's Standing Committee on Local Government and Rural Development, Senator Khalid Mehmood Soomro during a press conference.

The work carried out by the Works and Services Department, Sindh was sub-standard which forced President and Prime Minister to hand it over to the National Highway Authority (NHA), he said.

“Both, the Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Makhdoom Shahabuddin and the NHA Chairman, Altaf Hussain held a detailed meeting over the sub-standard development work and briefed me over the state of work which prompted this action, he said.

Dr Soomro briefed the NHA Chairman that the passing of drainage lines at upper levels would inundate the houses in low lying areas during rains.

Besides this, the executing agencies involved in constructing inter-city roads have also piled up stones on majority of roads thus worsening the traffic flow, he said.
