Problems of Talhar Town

Published January 30, 2009

TALHAR, a town of Badin district, has a population of 50,000 people. This town has remained deprived of major projects and facilities throughout democratic periods of governments. So far nothing has changed ever since it became a taluka a few years back.

The disturbing part is the elected representative, who is not elected locally. He gets elected and then disappears. The electoral college seats belong to the PPP but the local natives of this town have never been given any opportunity to contest polls.

This town is an important source of natural gas which is provided to its surrounding towns but it is very unfortunate that in this modern day and age, women of this town are compelled to still cook on wooden stoves.

This town has got no college for girls and boys as they go to other towns and cities. Many parents can't afford to do so due to high educational fees and travel fares.

This town needs a modern water supply station with filtration plant. At present this town has only one pumping station which does not supply water properly to all parts of the town. On the other hand, due to the unavailability of a filtration unit, the population of this town is compelled to drink dirty Phuleli canal water which is becoming a cause of all water-borne diseases.

This is a humble request made to the Sindh and federal governments and the elected members of this area to address the above issues to change the fortune of this town.
