HYDERABAD, Nov 29: Several fruit sellers of Lajpat Road fruit market closed their business on Wednesday evening to protest the arrest of a councillor of UC-9, Hyderabad City, Majeed Khokhar, and highhandedness of the Nazim of UC-9 of Hyderabad city, Tanveer Siddiqui, who, they claimed, was harassing them through his men in connection with the checking of fruit prices.

According to fruit sellers, and Faisal Farooque, UC-9 councillor Khokhar was put behind the bars at the city police station on the orders of the Nazim of UC-9.

They were also reported to have converged at the police station, saying that they were being harassed by the Nazim of UC-9, City, and his men. They also blocked the Lajpat Road and raised slogans. However, they later resumed the business as the Iftar time approached.

The Nazim denied having sent the police to lock up Mr Khokhar and added that it was he who got him released from the police station.
