ISLAMABAD President Asif Ali Zardari has directed Interior Minister Rehman Malik to submit a comprehensive report on the law and order situation in Karachi.

Speaking at meeting of PPP's core committee at the Presidency here on Tuesday, he said the elements behind the spate of target killings in Karachi would be apprehended and brought to justice regardless of their political affiliation.
The meeting jointly chaired by the president and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani discussed overall political and law and order situation in the country.

Federal ministers Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, Syed Naveed Qamar, Rehman Malik and Makhdoom Shahabuddin, PPP's secretary-general Jahangir Badar, Senator Faisal Raza Abidi, Mehreen Anwar Raja, Rukhsana Bangash, Fouzia Wahab and Fouzia Habib attended the meeting.

The meeting also discussed the possible situation after the verdict of the Supreme Court in the 18th Amendment case scheduled to be announced on Thursday.

President Zardari and Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad met in Islamabad on Monday and discussed ways of solving the problems of Karachi.

The interior minister visited the city and it was reported on Tuesday night that he had been asked by the president to rush to the city because of the worsening situation.
