Rowdyism in Faisalabad tehsil council

FAISALABAD, Feb 26: The Tehsil Municipal Administration (City) passed scores of resolutions amid rowdyism during the session held here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of presiding officer Ilyas Ansari.

As the speaker put the agenda items before the house for discussion, a number of councillors stood up on point of orders and started making hue and cry for variety of reasons.

Councillors alleged that neither their proposals nor the resolutions passed by the house were being implemented in letter and spirit due to the negligence of TMA officials concerned.

They claimed the entire city was presenting a look of filth depots as sanitary workers had refused to perform their duties under the direct command of Nazims and Naib Nazims of union councils.

Elected councillors, they said, were disgraced when they approached the TMA officials for resolving the problems of people. Not even a single major project or policy had been finalized and approved by the TMA (City) during the last one-and-a-half-year which reflected the performance of officials and elected representatives concerned, they remarked.

Castigating the presiding officer, some members alleged that he had become handicap as his instructions were not being implemented due to his differences with some TMA high-ups.

Lady councillors blamed that they were not being given financial assistance by the TMA despite the fact that Rs2,000 were being paid to each member of the district assembly.

They alleged the plan to spend women welfare fund had also been in doldrums for the last one year. They demanded a separate room in the TMA complex for women members so that they could listen to problems of women.

Assuring the members, the speaker said that their complaints would be redressed and the authority concerned would also be approached accordingly.

Later, the house passed a number of resolutions and items on the agenda, including the use of TMA funds, construction work of the general bus stand and launching campaigns against stray dogs.

BODY FORMED: The Faisalabad Union of Journalists on Wednesday constituted a five-member committee to pursue the case of thrashing a photographer.

At a meeting here at the local Press Club, local journalists, including reporters and news photographers of national and local dailies, condemned the incident in which Kotwali SHO Fiaz Ihsan gave sound thrashing to Asadullah, lensman of Daily Express. He had also threatened him with dire consequences for taking pictures of a person who was being tortured by some others in Jhang Bazaar.

The meeting also decided that the matter would be put before the district public safety commission for taking legal action against the Kotwali SHO.

ARRESTED: Lundianwala police claim to have arrested a notorious dacoit when some of his accomplices tried to loot policemen at Chak 582-GB on Tuesday night.

Six armed robbers stopped a car of police team headed by the Lundianwala SHO and tried to escape when they saw policemen in it. The police team after a brief chase arrested Majeedullah while his accomplices fled by taking the advantage of darkness.

TAKEN AWAY: Armed gangsters intercepted a bus (TSB-444) and hijacked its driver at pistol point.

The outlaws later pushed the driver out of the vehicle and drove away with the vehicle.

Police have registered a case.
