Saeed and Saleem undergo dope tests

PAARL, Feb 25: Pakistani batsmen, Saeed Anwar and Saleem Elahi underwent dope tests, a procedure which has recently been included in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2003.

Urine samples were taken immediately after the Holland match that Pakistan won by 97 runs.

The duo is the first Pakistan combination to have been randomly selected for dope tests.

The results of the tests are expected to be released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) later this week.

It may be mentioned that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) conducted dope tests of all its 15 players in January and the results from Penang, Malaysia, laboratory that is approved by the International Olympic Council (IOC) proved negative.

The Pakistan team management was unconcerned when they were told in the morning of the match by the match organizers.

“ We have nothing to hide or worry about. But we have to follow the procedures as the boys are contractually bound to undergo dope tests during World Cup matches,” a spokesman for the team said.
