Jamaat’s charge against Sherpao

Published February 24, 2003

TIMERGARA,  Feb  23:  Jamaat-i-Islami leaders of Lower Dir district have appealed to the Peshawar High Court to take notice of the alleged interference by federal minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao into courts of the district.

The JI organized a demonstration and held a public meeting here on Friday to protest against the detention of Izazul Mulk Afkari, Lower Dir general secretary of the party.

The JI workers took to the streets after the Friday prayers here and protested against the arrest of Mr Afkari, who is being held in connection with the attack on a Pesco executive engineer in his office a couple of months ago. A local court had turned down Mr Afkari’s application for bail.

The protesters blocked the Chakdara-Dir road and chanted slogans against Wapda and the federal minister.—Correspondent
