KARACHI, Feb 23: Various parts of the city on Sunday either went dry or received scant supply of water owing to the short supply of over 40 million gallons of water from Dhabeji’s (phase-II) pumping station on Saturday.

The hard-hit towns include Bin Qasim, Landhi, Korangi, Orangi and different sectors of North Karachi.

The pumping of water to the city from the pumping station was suspended for 12 hours on Saturday following a cable fault that developed0 in the Dhabeji (Phase-III) pump house the same day.

The city government’s water and sanitation department sources said that the pumping of water to the city from three pumps of the pumping station remained suspended for 12 hours owing to non-availability of electricity at the pumping station.

Power supply to the pump house went off at 8.30pm on Saturday, and it was restored at 8.30pm the same day. The city’s overall supply position that deteriorated in the wake of the cable fault at the pump house would be normalized by Monday, said a senior official of the water and sanitation department.

Complaints of water shortage have also been received from North Karachi’s sector 11-C-1, Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s blocks 4 and 4-A and Gulistan-i-Jauhar’s block 15.

CLOSURE: Water supply to various parts of the city’s former district central would remain suspended on Monday as part of the water and sanitation department’s plan of diverting Indus water to the localities hooked to the Hub dam source.

These localities include all the blocks of North Nazimabad, Federal B Area, Nazimabad, Shadman Town, Buffer Zone and its adjoining areas.
