Free Lancer hopes to make amends today

KARACHI, Feb 22: Free Lancer, on trail for his fourth successive victory but soundly beaten last week by Lady’s Love going over six furlongs, will make amends on Sunday afternoon when the Winter Gymkhana Meeting gets under way at the Karachi Racecourse.

The seven-year-old chestnut will now be going over his pet distance of five furlongs.

Also in the field is the dark bay horse Sher Zai, who will be going all out to achieve another success after humbling Free Lancer’s stable companion Defence Academy two weeks ago.

However, Defence Academy was also among the winners last Sunday, beating Just In Fun by a street over five furlongs and will be going all out to avenge that defeat in the sixth race.

All in all, eight events have been drawn up on the racing card. The first six to be contested over the sprinting distance of five furlongs and the last two going over six.
