KARACHI, Feb. 16: Expressing concern over promotion of European and Indian culture and festivals in the country, especially through state-controlled and private electronic media, Ulema and scholars on Saturday urged the government halt the practice and instead promote Islamic values, traditions and civilization.

This consensus emerged during a meeting of secretary-general of Jamaat-i-Islami Syed Munawar Hassan with Allama Raza Mustafa and Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rahman. JI leader Mohammad Muslim, leader of the House in City Council Muslim Pervaiz and others were also present.

Issues, including challenges confronting Muslim Ummah, country’s security and issues pertaining to national and international importance also came under discussion.

They called for promoting unity among Muslims and said that by adopting traditions of helping each could save Muslims and their interests in this rapidly changing world.

They also criticized the US designs against Muslims, especially against Iraq, and vowed to initiate resistance against west’s aggressive posture and nefarious designs against Muslims.

During the meeting, JI leaders asked the Ulema and scholars to express solidarity with the oppressed Muslims of the world and sought their assistance.—PPI
