KARACHI, Feb 7: The tax authorities have decided to obtain special reference data from utility companies to bring new taxpayers under the tax net.

A decision to this effect was taken during a two-day conference of Regional Commissioners of Income Tax held on Feb 6-7, in Karachi.

The conference was attended by all Regional Commissioners of Income Tax, Chief (DTO), CBR and Secretary (Assessment), CBR, Islamabad.

The second day’s session was chaired by Vakil Ahmed Khan, Member (Direct Taxes). The conference also evaluated the overall performance of revenue collection for the first seven months of the current financial year and the formulation of strategies for improving tax collection for the year.

Issues relating to broadening of tax base with special reference to data obtained from utility companies also came under discussion.

The conference also looked into ways and means to extend maximum facilities to taxpayers with special reference to allotment of NTNs and prompt issuance of refunds.
