LARKANA, Feb 5: A team of doctors held a medical camp in Gabidero on Tuesday and found 35 cases of Leishmanisis.

The team, led by Dr Farooqur Rehman Soomro, distributed free medicines to the patients.

Dr Soomro said that the majority of the patients examined were suffering from malaria, skin diseases and abdominal disorders.

A team of three doctors from Japan had lately visited this belt after hearing reports that Leishmanisis had broken out in the area.

Nawabzada Shahnawaz Khan, Nazim, Union Council Gaibidero, told this correspondent that cases of Hepatitis-B were also on the rise in this mountainous belt and pointed towards certain deaths.

Dr Afzal Soomro, a representative of the district health office, assured the Nazim for inoculating newly-born children with Hepatitis-B vaccines.

People visiting the medical camp told this correspondent that water-borne diseases were also on the rise in the area.

They complained about the paucity of medical facilities and shortage of potable water.

TRANSFERS OPPOSED: The district Nazim, Larkana, Khursheed Junijo, protesting over the transfer of 58 revenue collectors and five Mukhtiarkars in Larkana district without his consent, has asked the chief secretary, Sindh, to intervene.

The Nazim had talked to the chief secretary apprising him of the latest development.

Talking to this correspondent on Tuesday, he said that the en masse transfers in the revenue department would have a negative impact on the overall revenue collection in the Kharif season in the district.
