REPAIR works have been carried out recently on Karachi-Thatta Road. I am shocked to see the bad planning involved in the construction of the road. Once the sun settles, driving on this road is dangerous and deadly.

As soon as one crosses the Karachi toll, there is a police barrier where stones are placed on the road some 10 metres away from the barrier, which are barely visible at night.

This was only the beginning of the death ride. The road is constructed such that it is a combination of two-lane road and single-lane road. Moving on to the two-lane road from the single-lane road or vice versa has no indication or sign and is purely on the driver’s judgment. Many confused drivers do not change road and increase the likelihood of accidents. One could see, at several places, glass shattered on the road which indicates that there have been several accidents on the road.

There were barely any police on the road. It is known that on the road from Thatta to Hyderabad dacoits have been looting people, and now perhaps the authorities are waiting for this activity to begin on this road also.

The same road is used by many officials and ministers, yet no attention is paid to public safety matters.
