LARKANA, March 23: Larkana campus of University of Sindh (SU) will start working from March 25 with the first batch of 210 students in four disciplines.

Talking to journalists at Commissioner House here on Saturday, SU Vice-Chancellor Dr Nazeer Mughal called it a history, adding that classes would be started in 10 classrooms of Government Arts and Commerce College, Larkana.

The faculty is arranged from the university and also hired from the market to start with the disciplines of B.Sc in Computer Science, BBA, English Language (morning) and MBA (evening).

He said in the pre-entry test, some 300 candidates had qualified for the admission but due to limited area, only 210 were admitted.

Flanked by Larkana Commissioner Dr Saeed Ahmed Mangnejo, in-charge of SU Dadu campus Dr Anwar Shah and college Principal Ms Musrat Kazi, Dr Mughal said a summary had been submitted with the Sindh chief minister for acquiring 100 acres of land in the education city opposite to Cadet College of Larkana on the airport road. He expressed the hope that the summary would be approved soon.

He thanked President Asif Ali Zardari, former Sindh chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Pir Mazharul Haq for this step.

He said PC-I for Rs1,500 million was submitted with the government while seed money of Rs500 million was also sanctioned for the Larkana campus.

Soon, he said, Begum Nusrat Bhutto International University for Women would be established in Sukkur for which 200 acres of land had already been purchased.

He said a teachers training college would be started in Malir education city, Karachi, within a month for and a building of 40 rooms had been handed over to the University of Sindh management for this purpose.

In reply to a question, he said that demanding removal of the vice-chancellor by the lower staff union was unconstitutional. He accused the lower employees union of inducting more than 300 favourites in the university.

About removing Arfana Malah as president of the union, he said her union had removed her on the charges of violating the constitution.
