KARACHI, Jan 27: An election tribunal, comprising Justice Amir Hani Muslim of the Sindh High Court, ordered on Monday recounting of votes of PS-112 at 10am on Feb 6 at the Provincial Election Commission’s office.

The tribunal was hearing an election petition filed by Muhammad Ahmed Siddiqui of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal against Syed Shakir Ali of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement who has been elected MPA from PS-112.

Expressing annoyance over inaction by the election authorities, the tribunal also ordered recounting on a day-to-day basis and filing of recounting report before the tribunal on Feb 10.

The same tribunal also allowed withdrawal of petition filed by Maulana Shirin Muhammad of the MMA, who lost election to Sarkaruddin, advocate, of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement on a National Assembly seat.

Khawaja Sharful Islam advocate, counsel for Maulana Shirin, moved the application for withdrawal. Qazi Khalid Ali, counsel for the respondent MNA, raised no objection at which the tribunal dismissed the petition as withdrawn.

Another tribunal, comprising Justice Moosa. K. Leghari of the Sindh High Court, issued notices to respondents in an election petition filed by Muhammad Muslim of the MMA against Idrees Siddiqui of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (constituency PS-103).

The same tribunal also put off the hearing of a petition filed by former senator Nasreen Jalil against MNA-elect Abdul Sattar Afghani to next Monday.

An election tribunal, comprising Justice Ghulam Rabbani of the Sindh High Court, issued notices to MNA Kunwar Khalid Younus and other respondents, including the returning officer, for Feb 3.

The election petition was filed by Syed Munawwar Hassan of the MMA who lost the election to Khalid Younus from NA-245, Karachi.

The tribunal also heard initial arguments in the election petitions filed against MNA Iqbal Mohammed Ali Khan and MPA Mohammed Abbas.

The tribunal later put off further hearing to Feb 3.—APP
