STUDENTS of upper Sindh are faced with a rather difficult situation as regards pursuing their higher education. Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) at Khairpur is the only higher education institution in upper Sindh with many colleges of surrounding districts affiliated with this university.

Owing to monetary constraints many good students of upper Sindh can’t acquire education directly at universities. Hence, their only recourse is to get higher education through colleges affiliated with SALU.

The university conducted examinations of LLB Parts I, II and III in June 2011 and the results of which were announced in February 2012. I also appeared in the Part III examination and passed it.

There is no blinking the fact that starting a career entails availability of a degree in hand. I applied for the degree in May 2012 after completing all the legally required formalities. Despite elapsing of a good span of time, I have not yet been issued the degree. Although I am a resident of Shikarpur, I visited the university in person several times. I also tried to find out the reasons for the delay from the clerk concerned who put me off by showing one reason or the other sarcastically and unprofessionally that added insult to my injuries.

Either it is administrative inefficiency of the university or it does not have enough staff to deal with the work. The university earns millions of rupees every year under the head of examination fee and issuance of academic documents etc to the students.This lackadaisical approach, coupled with an inordinate delay in issuance of necessary documents, frustrates students from acquiring further education, apart from being a hurdle in getting jobs. If this continues, it will not only tarnish the image of the university but also the future of the already misery-surrounded young men of upper Sindh will be darker and bleaker.

Regulating authorities are requested to look into the matter so that any further loss of time may be avoided.
