KARACHI, Jan 23: A five-member team of French officials was given an up-date on the investigations into the Sheraton bomb blast case at the Sindh home department on Thursday.

The CCPO, Additional IG Asad Ashraf Malik, told Dawnthat the team, which also included the French consul-general, visited the home department where they were briefed on the latest position about the investigations into the case.

Besides the consul-general, the delegation comprised an official of the French Embassy at Islamabad, a French police official posted at the French consulate in Karachi and two investigators.

The team was given a detailed presentation by DIG Investigations Fayyaz Leghari.

The arrest of Asif Zaheer and Rizwan Bashir was also discussed during the presentation.

The French team was assured that they would be kept informed of new developments in the case. The team was also told that certain aspects of the case were still under scrutiny, the CCPO said..

Besides the CCPO, IG Sindh Syed Kamal Shah and the DIG Investigations attended the meeting.

Soon after the bomb blast, a French team had visited Karachi.

The team had re-constructed the face of the suicide bomber by joining together his remains at the morgue of Civil Hospital.

It was the first time that such re-construction procedure was carried out in Pakistan.

On the morning of May 8 last year, 11 French nationals and three Pakistanis were killed and 10 foreigners and eight Pakistanis were injured, some of them seriously, when a suicide bomber drove up to a Pakistan Navy bus in front of Sheraton Hotel.
