LAHORE, Feb 18: The Punjab government has appointed new Bahawalpur region police chief, while the provincial police chief has transferred and posted four senior police officers, including three district police chiefs.

According to an S&GAD notification issued on Monday, Bahawalpur Regional Police Officer Rao Sardar Ali Khan has been transferred and directed to report to the S&GAD. Sihala Police Training College DIG Ghulam Rasool Zahid has been transferred and posted in Khan’s place. Sources say Mr Khan is proceeding on a two-year ex-Pakistan leave.

According to a handout, Rawalpindi SSP (Operations) Israr Ahmad Khan has been transferred and posted Dera Ghazi Khan DPO vice Muhammad Saleem who has been directed to report to the Central Police Office, Punjab.

Gujranwala SSP (Investigation) Athar Ismail Amjad has been transferred and posted Sialkot DPO vice Afzaal Ahmed Kausr who has been directed to report to the CPO, Punjab.

Meanwhile, posts of Hafizabad, Rajanpur and Sargodha DPOs have not yet been fulfilled. The posts of Hafizabad and Rajanpur DPOs have been lying vacant for the last two months or so while the post of Sargodha DPO fell vacant on Feb 7 this year. Acting provincial police chief Khan Beg told Dawn three posts would be filled within a couple of days. — Staff Reporter
