LAHORE, Feb 6: The National Highways and Motorway Police (M-2) South claimed on Wednesday to have foiled an attempt to kidnap an 11-year-old child from Hafizabad and arrested two kidnappers with arms and ammunition near Kala Shah Kaku.

A press release says NH&MP officers Kashif Akhlaq and Kamran Shehzad of M-2 South deputed on speed-checking duty near Kala Shah Kaku noticed a car in which a man was holding a boy hostage. They signalled the car to stop being driven at 156km/h but its occupiers tried to escape. The police foiled their bid and arrested Muhammad Nadeem and Muhammad Yasir, both residents of Lahore.

The suspects confessed that they had abducted Hamza Manzoor, son of Muhammad Manzoor of Hafizabad, for ransom and were shifting him to Lahore to hand him over to another party.

The victim said he was picked up from near his school by the suspects who threatened to kill him if he told someone.

The motorway police contacted the family and handed the child over to them in the presence of the local police.

On the instructions of SSP Dr Anam Waheed, kidnappers were handed over to the police for further legal action. — Staff Reporter
