KARACHI, Feb 3: A large number of students with their parents and teachers participated in a nature carnival held on Sunday at the PAF museum.

The event aimed at creating awareness of environmental issues was organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature-Pakistan (WWF-P) in collaboration with a private company.

A number of interactive and educational activities had been organised at the carnival that included, games, lucky draws, live music and puppet shows based on different environmental themes.

One of the main attractions of the programme was a three-D model making competition participated by students from 100 schools and 10 colleges and universities, both from the private and public sectors.

The displays were made on subjects like solid waste management, marine conservation, water and forest conservation, waste conversion to energy, water and sanitation and green economy.

Speaking on the occasion, Sindh Minister for Environment and Alternative Energy Sheikh Mohammad Afzal said that he saw a change in the attitudes and behaviour of the youth in Pakistan, which, he said, had come as a result of awareness initiatives. He said that Pakistan being an energy deficit country required more ventures like the carnival to educate the masses.

Senior director of the WWF-P Dr Ejaz Ahmad said the youth was an important target group in nature conservation as they were Pakistan’s future.
