Mr Hamid, India has 28 states and 7 union territories. Kashmir is just one of them. The only reason we need to pay special attention to it is because your nation has been salivating at it for over 65 years.

Well, actually none of the largest newspapers of India carried this many pictures of the Republic Day celebrations either, if that is any consolation...:-) it's just that Dawn has a larger and more diverse multimedia section. I think that's something to be admired, don't you?

whither India?
Today is Republic day! On this day in 1950 India was declared to be a Republic. We , the people of India, gave to ourselves a splendid Constitution which constituted India into a sovereign, democratic, secular and independent nation. The foundations of India were to be built on the basis of freedom, equality, justice and tolerance. The ideal was Swaraj as conceived by Vivekananda,Tilak,Sri Aurobindo,Das and others. In other words Rule of the people,by the people and for the people! Could there have been a greater vision for a modern nation?
64 years down the road, are we on the right path? Is it true that poverty, hunger, malnutrition, disease, illiteracy, sexual violence, corruption, communal strife and feudalism is still rampant?40% of or population goes hungry to bed!The number of poor in India is more than in Africa! The political class and the intelligentsia are intellectually and morally bankrupt! Our educational system is decrepit and obsolete.Money power and muscle power are the sole criteria for getting elected to Parliament and other legislative bodies. Are these the fruits of freedom?
All is not lost yet!If we can revive our cultural roots and r-invent ourselves India can still attain Swaraj within a few decades! However this will require tremendous determination, sacrifice and hard work. The future lies with the brave and the daring! It is the youth, the women and the poor who have the largest stake in the building of a harmonious, just, equal, tolerant and free society.

Hamid !!!! its good for Pakistan and India, now the time has come for citizens of both countries to ask their respective political leaders to stop the nonsense blame game and let the citizens to concentrate on their growth. Pakistan could do much more with good relations with India, Pak desperately needs a good economy, good education and social awakening rather than wasting money on Military. Hope you understand, India has gone far away and quality of life has improved substantially.

Pakistani Independence day? Independence from whom? Hindus?
India got independence from the British after people Gandhi, Nehru and Bhagat Singh fought hard for it, some even giving up their lives.
There's no Pakistan Independence day, but creation day. Remember Jinnah did not spend a day in jail or in protest, like the real Freedom Fighters of India did.

What the heck!, the indian officials had sent back pakistani hockey players, their showbiz had asked not to involve pakistani film artists, jaipur literary festival had asked to cancel invitations for pakistani writers and above all "No Business as Usual with Pakistan" (ManMohan Singh).
No probing by UN is welcomed by India over LoC killings just not to internationalize the issue.
So what special is in India's Republic Day for us?? Can Dawn shed some light on it.

Pakistani and Indian public at large has uniomous passions for each others among the old folks and new generation .But every thing can be transpired into permanent
Peace if all the religion fanatics and opportunist politicians are ready to loose their powers to unit India and Pakistan as a single united country to show the world we can live together as we did since last 5000 years before converteion to Islam by invaders from Persia and Mugals.
All land belongs to Indians and let it be once agin show these western societiesmthatbwebunder no religion can divide us,no foreign influence can
Drive us to fight . We are one and were one all these westeners came to rob us.

I am an Indian and I really admire the Dawn. It offers balanced and unbiased views, especially on India, on most occassions. I am an Indian and sometimes I am embarrassed and saddened by not only the type of unprofessional reporting of some Indian news outlets, but also by the vitriol many jobless uninformed chaps spew against pakistan and leave no space for reasonable discussion unlike most of the people who comment on Dawn's forum

The Dawn is not a stooge of Pakistan, or the Muslims. It happens to based in the country named Pakistan with 99% percent Muslim population. I have seen many a time the Pakistanis ranting about why other than Pakistanis read, comment in the paper,or why the Dawn writes some thing good about a country with which Pakistan does not have good relations to begin with,Instead of feeling proud that they have an institution. Any how I feel very proud, even living in the West ( the U.S.) for over forty years that the South Asia has some really good world class news papers, and THE DAWN can compete with any liberal, free paper in the West. I truly trust it. And I read it, express my opinion freely. Thanks the Dawn it opens the window of fresh free flowing thoughts. Otherwise it's going to be a small ,shrinking pond of stinking water. Open your eyes, come out of slumber, look at the world with open mind and fresh thoughts. Long live THE DAWN. So I could look for another to-marrow.Celebrate that you have free press.
