LAHORE, Jan 24: A workshop for Pakistan Studies teachers at Punjab University has recommended them to try to develop patriotism in younger generation and help them understand why Pakistan was created and what role is expected of them to strengthen the country.

The workshop organised by the PU’s Pakistan Study Centre (PSC) on Thursday was attended by nominated faculty members from more than 50 colleges affiliated with the varsity.

Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences Dean Prof Dr Zakria Zakir presided over the inaugural session.

The workshop recommended Pakistan Studies’ syllabi should be revisited with a view to make it interesting for the students as well as more relevant to present day Pakistan.

PSC Director Prof Dr Massarrat Abid stressed to revise Pakistan Studies’ syllabi teachers should be provided an opportunity to interact so that they could discuss authentic published sources of the subject with each other.

Nine special lectures on the course contents were arranged in the workshop, spreading over three sessions. The lectures focused on the ideology and creation of Pakistan, its natural resources and institutional structure, besides methods and techniques of teaching the subject.

A book exhibition by Oxford University Press was also held at the Centre.

RESULTS: The PU on Thursday declared the results of MA Urdu Part-I, annual examination for 2012, BS Communications Studies (four-year), semester system session 2008-12 and MSc Criminology and Security Studies (evening programme), semester system session 2010-12.
