KARACHI, Jan 20: The Pakistan People’s Party and the Awami National Party participated with Muttahida Qaumi Movement on Sunday in a candlelight vigil held on Sunday evening at Nine Zero for the slain lawmaker Syed Manzar Imam and three others who had been shot dead in Orangi town earlier this week.

Scores of MQM workers, including women and children, gathered in front of the MQM headquarters for the candlelight vigil. Besides the PPP and the ANP, Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf, Pakistan Muslim League-Q and Tehrik Minhajul Quran also sent their  delegations.

Sindh Minister for Local Government Agha Siraj Durrani led the PPP delegation, while the ANP was represented by its provincial secretary-general Bashir Jan.

Senior MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar said that the event was held to give a clear-cut message to extremists that they would not succeed in their nefarious designs. He said that all political and religious parties should unite on a single agenda to deal with the menace.

ANP's Bashir Jan said that the MQM and his party had a similar enemy and they should work together to rid the city and country of terrorists and extremists.

Mr Durrani of the PPP said that all political and religious parties should sit together to evolve a strategy to deal with terrorism.—Staff Reporter
