PESHAWAR, Jan 16: Awami National Party (ANP) has objected to the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal’s decision of nominating Jamaat-i-Islami’s Prof Khurshid Ahmed for the Senate election on the NWFP quota.

“Prof Khurshid is neither a bona fide citizen of the NWFP nor could he fight for the rights of the province,” said Haji Mohammed Adeel, ANP’s secretary information, in a press statement issued here on Tuesday.

Terming the MMA’s decision a “betrayal” of the rights of the NWFP people, the Pukhtoon nationalist party accused the religious parties’ conglomerate of unfairly getting registered his (Prof Khurshid’s) name in the voters’ list from the NWFP.

He said Prof Khurshid was not a true representative of the people of NWFP, hence, his nomination against the province’s quota of seats for the upcoming Senate polls was unjustified.

Instead of nominating him for the Senate against the NWFP’s quota, said the ANP leader, MMA should have fielded him in the October polls.
