KARACHI, Jan 18: Ajmal alias Pahari said to be involved in a number of cases was released from the Karachi prison on Friday.

DIG Prisons Nusrat Mangan confirmed his release and said he had been detained under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).

Earlier on Jan 11, Pahari had filed a petition in the Sindh High Court against his continued detention under the MPO.

The court issued notices to the additional chief secretary (home) and others.

The petitioner submitted in a petition that he was arrested on March 18, 2011 and implicated in 15 criminal cases. He was later acquitted in 11 cases and granted bail in the remaining four cases.

He said that he had been detained under Section 3 (1) of the West Pakistan Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, 1960, since Sept 20, 2012 because of pre-sumptuous reasons without any justification or validity.—Staff Reporter
