ISLAMABAD, Jan 17: Two judges of Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui and Justice Noorul Haq N. Qureshi resumed their responsibilities, on Thursday, after the government issued a notification for their appointment on Wednesday.

Justice Qureshi, on Thursday, and Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui on Friday (today) would resume hearing of cases.

Earlier on Thursday, IHC Chief Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman administered oath to Justice Siddiqui, who has been appointed as permanent judge of the IHC.

The oath taking ceremony held at the IHC Building was attended by Judges, office bearers of Islamabad High Court Bar Association, District Bar Association Islamabad and senior officials of the court.

Justice Siddiqui and Justice Qureshi both were appointed in the IHC as additional judges on November, 2011.

The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) on October 22, 2012 had confirmed Justice Siddiqui as permanent judge, while six months extension was given to Justice Qureshi.

The Parliamentary Committee on Judges Appointment on November 6, 2012, also approved the recommendations of JCP but President Asif Ali Zardari had turned down the summary for the appointment.

After re-joining of the two judges, the total number of IHC judges reached 5 and about 10,000 cases were pending in the court.
