KARACHI: Baby-care drive launched

KARACHI, Jan 15: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad on Wednesday inaugurated a baby care clinic campaign to provide expert advice to about 0.7 million middle class mothers across the country.

He stated that “our strategy is aimed at making essential drugs for common diseases available at affordable prices.”

The programmes of immunization against common diseases have been carried out through outreach and mobile teams, which have been successful in eradicating small pox. The government, he added, was concentrating on eradicating polio and malaria.

Appreciating the sponsors - Procter and Gamble -, the governor said it had shown their deep concern for children.

Dr Ibad said that one of the government’s programmes was the family planning and primary health care initiative which responded to health care needs of rural communities. The programme has a community-based approach and is well-regulated and could go a long way in mitigating the basic health problems of rural women and children.—APP
