LAHORE, Jan 5: Governor Makhdoom Ahmad Mahmood has said the glory and dignity of Aitchison College will be restored and no compromise made in the education standard and appointments of the faculty.
Speaking at the first informal meeting of the new members of the board of governors of the college at Governor’s House here on Saturday, the governor said the institution should not only produce good students but also principled and better human beings.
The meeting was attended by Aitchison College Principal Shamim Saifullah Khan, Iftikhar Ahmad Malik, Syed Babar Ali, Sardar Yar Muhammad Jamali, Justice Yahya Afridi, Yawar Badar, Ijaz Munir, Tariq Bajwa, Brig Mujahid Husain and Maj-Gen Sahibzada Isfandiyar Pataudi.
The meeting decided that upgradation of academic standard at the Aitchison College should be on a par with the acclaimed international institution, and all admissions should be on merit and any violation would not be tolerated.
It was also suggested that an endowment fund should be established with the help of old Aitchisonians to support and help the poor and intelligent students.
It was also decided that the appointments of the faculty would be publicised with a transparent method.
“It is the duty of the faculty to teach students the basic etiquettes which are the foundation of real gentlemen. Faculty has to be on top class and affordable, and there will be no compromise on the integrity, dignity and quality of education,” the governor said.
It was also decided that students’ attendance should be ensured completely besides ban on smoking and mobile phones in classrooms.
The governor had dissolved the 21-member board of governors of the Aitchison College on Jan 1 in a bid to regain college’s past glory that was ‘tarnished’ following recent controversies.
