KARACHI: After a gap of 92 days — when a mob of protesters torched Karachi’s several cinema houses on Sept 21 — the famous Capri cinema resumed functioning with the soft launch of Indian film Dabangg 2 starring Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha.

One of the directors of the Capri cinema, Asif Razzaq, announced the resumption of film screenings at the facility at a press conference on Thursday on the cinema premises.

Speaking to Dawn, he said he was delighted that the cinema was once again up and running.

He said he and his team had to restore the cinema house from scratch since everything had been burnt beyond recognition.

Nawab Hasan of the Nishat cinema, who was also present on the occasion, said that it was nice to know that an entertainment-providing facility located in such an important area had now been reopened.

He said since the Prince and the Nishat cinemas had not yet recovered from the loss, but the Capri cinema would provide inexpensive entertainment to a large number of film-goers.

He lamented that cinema owners had been doing all the hard work without any government support.
