ISLAMABAD, Dec 18: A court here on Tuesday issued warrants for Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf’s arrest in the judges’ detention case.

Civil judge-cum-judicial magistrate Abbas Shah issued the warrants on a request of the SHO, Secretariat Police, against the former president for allegedly detaining over 60 judges, including Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, following proclamation of the state of emergency in the country on Nov 3, 2007.

An FIR was registered against Mr Musharraf in August 2009 after a sessions court allowed a request of a lawyer, Chaudhry Mohammad Aslam Ghumman, seeking legal proceedings against the general.

SHO Qaiser Gillani had asked the court to issue the warrants so that Mr Musharraf was made to face the investigation. Mr Ghumman told Dawn that Mr Musharraf would be arrested upon his arrival in Pakistan and if he did not return the police would request the court to issue a proclamation.—Reporter
