KARACHI, Dec 14: Secretary, Sindh Canoeing Association and associate secretary, Sindh Olympic Association (SOA), Engr Syed Mahfooz-ul-Haq, has been named chef-de-mission of Sindh contingent that features in the 32nd National Games being held at Lahore from Dec 22 to 28.

Mahfooz, who is chief engineer mechanical, OGDCL, has a rich experience of water sports — canoeing and rowing — and has been part of SOA in different capacities since long.

His name and the strength of Sindh contingent was approved by president SOA and advisor sports to Sindh Chief Minister, Dr. Mohammad Ali Shah, in the executive committee meeting held at Sindh Sports Board (SSB) complex the other day.

Other officials of the contingent include Sana Ali and Majida Hameed (deputy chef-de-missions), Ahmad Ali (secretary) and Syed Saeed Jameel (treasurer).

In addition, director of the SSB, Shahid Abdul Salam, will accompany the contingent as coordinator.

A 300-member contingent, which envisaged men and women athletes and team officials, will represent the province in the games. Men will compete in 20 disciplines whereas women will take part in 13 events. As many as 27 disciplines will be staged during the weeklong games.

The Sindh contingent leaves to Lahore by train on Dec 20.

Disciplines:

Men: Athletics, baseball, bodybuilding, boxing, cycling, gymnastics, ju-jitsu, karate, rifle shooting, rowing, sailing, softball, squash, swimming, table tennis, tae kwondo, tennis, weightlifting, wrestling and wushu.

Women: Athletics, baseball, cycling, football, ju-jitsu, karate, rifle shooting, sailing, squash, swimming, table tennis, tae kwondo and wushu.
