KARACHI, Jan 7: District level conferences, workshops and seminars will be organized throughout the province to highlight rights of women and also to have their opinion in this regard.

This was stated by Sindh Minister for Women Development Dr Saeeda Malik at a briefing in the office of Secretary Women Development Abdul Hameed Akhund on Tuesday.

The minister said that assistance of Nazimeen would also be sought in connection with these workshops and their presence would also be ensured.

She observed that women formed 52 per cent of the population but mostly they were unaware of their rights. It is essential that this section of the population should become aware of their rights so that they could defend themselves at various levels, she added.

The minister pointed out that the department had not performed the way it should have worked and now there was a need for doing hard work for which all its officials would be activated.

Dr Saeeda said that the social welfare, population welfare and reputed NGOs would be involved for creating awareness among women of their rights. Besides, views of female journalists working in electronic and print media would be solicited to ascertain what they could do for women’s welfare.—APP
