LAHORE, Nov 12: Wapda won the eighth National Women’s Karate Championship at the Wapda Sports Complex here on Sunday.

Overall, Wapda won six gold and two bronze medals to take their points tally to 160.

Pakistan Army earned second position with 120 points, claiming three gold, three silver and as many bronze medals.

For Wapda Kulsoom Hazara remained the main force winning three gold medals in the 68kg, team kata and team kumite events. One gold medal each was clinched by Beenish Akbar, Sohaila and Uzma Asghar.

Balochistan secured third place by winning one silver and five bronze medals as they accumulated 65 points.

Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) president Lt Gen (r) Syed Arif Hasan, the chief guest, gave away the medals and winning trophy to Wapda team.

Meanwhile, a three-day course for referees and judges also ended on Sunday. At the end of the course a written examination was held after which licenses and certificates were presented to the qualified referees and judges.
