KARACHI, Nov 11: Veteran Davis Cupper Nomi Qamar was off to flying start in the Subh-e-Nau tennis championship, being played at the KMC Sports Complex, on Sunday.

Nomi brushed aside Abdullah in straight sets without conceding a point in the first match of men’s singles.

Khalid Ali Nazar of the Karachi Gymkhana also had a convincing victory over Omar Qamar.

Seasoned player and coach Vinod Das had to struggle to defeat Ayaz Khan.

Noor Rehman defeated Mohammad Nasim after a good contest.

Other players who reached the next round of this category are Iltefat Ahmed, Zohair Raza, Talha Zubair and Malik Hamza.

Boys’ U-14 round started on Saturday with Umair Tariq, Ahmed Jaffar, Khizer Imran Lohya and Mohammad Dada winning their first-round matches.

Second rounds of men’s singles and boys’ U-14, while first rounds of boys’ U-18, ladies’ singles and boys’ U-11 will be played on Monday.
