ISLAMABAD: Senate’s standing committee on water and power Thursday ordered to issue arrest warrants of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC), DawnNews reported.

An important meeting of the standing committee, headed by Senator Zahid Khan, was held in Islamabad to analyse the production capacity and to determine the output produced by the KESC, to ascertain the per unit production cost to the KESC and to obtain the details of the power supplied to the KESC by the Wapda (Water resources and power development authority).

Despite the committee’s invitation to the CEO of the KESC Tabish Gohar, he was not present in today’s meeting.

Over Gohar’s absence, the committee ordered the issuance of arrest warrants of him.

Chairman of the committee Senator Zahid Khan said that the arrest warrants of Tabish Gohar have been issued in accordance with the constitution. He ordered that Gohar should be presented before the committee on December 3.

He directed that the copies of the arrest warrants should be sent to Federal and Provincial Interior Secretaries.

Secretary of Water and Power Nargis Sethi said that KESC’s CEO was obliged to appear before the standing committee of the Senate as it was a supreme body.

The committee also summoned a report from Water and Power ministry over dismissal of contract-based officers. The committee had directed the ministry to dismiss contract based officers two months ago.
