KARACHI, Jan 5: Following the merger of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board into the city district government as one of the latter’s departments, the KWSB has been renamed the Water and Sewerage (W&S) Department of the city government and new designations of its officials have been notified.

The KWSB managing director will now be known as executive district officer of the W&S department of the city government.

The new designations of other officials in the new setup would be as follows:

The deputy managing directors will be known as district officers, and chief engineers, directors and executive engineers as deputy district officers.

SHORTAGE: An acute shortage of water persisted in various parts of the city for the second consecutive day on Sunday.

Most of these areas included PECHS Block 2, KDA Scheme-1, Sharfabad, Mehmoodabad No 5, Liaquatabad, Gharibabad and parts of Nazimabad. Residents complained that water supply to their areas was officially suspended for only Saturday, but they were not supplied water even on Sunday.

They said they had to buy expensive private water tankers which were being sold between Rs400 and Rs500 a tanker.

The localities where water supply would remain suspended on Monday as part of the W&S department’s plan of diverting Indus water to the localities hooked to the Hub source include North Nazimabad, Shadman Town, Buffer Zone and F. B Area.
