ISLAMABAD: Secretary Ministry of Water and Power Nargis Sethi on Thursday said that the government is working to increase the capacity of existing power plants.

Speaking to state-run Pakistan Television (PTV), she said that the government can produce electricity according to need and demand of the country.

She said the ministry of water and power was trying to overcome the shortfall and added that efforts are being made to enhance the existing power capacity to meet the demand in this sector.

Replying to a question, she said that WAPDA has disconnected the electricity connections for those institutions which are not paying the bills.

The government has controlled the problem of loadshedding, said Sethi adding that all resources are being utilized to create awareness among the masses to save the energy.

She urged the people to save the energy and always approach the right department of the government for getting connection of the electricity adding the ministry has given a slogan to the people “to save the electricity, water, gas and made the easy life.”

The secretary W&P said that a strict monitoring system was adopted to balance demand and supply in the energy sector.

Commenting on Thar-Coal project, she said the project would take some time to give results. “We will make all out efforts to implement the decision of the premier regarding Thar-Coal project,” she added.

During the Eid holidays the loadshedding would be minimized for the convenience of the public, announced the secretary. The ministry has established a helpline for registering complaints of the consumers, she said.
