KARAK, Oct 24: Pakistan People’s Party, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa president Anwar Saifullah Khan on Wednesday said he had contacted the relevant people of the federal government to fund the installation of 500 megawatt gas-fired power generators in Karak and Kohat districts for easing energy crisis.

Addressing a public meeting, Mr Saifullah said installation of power generators would help build industry and create job opportunities in the district.

He said the investor group owned by his family was ready to invest money in the project.

The PPP leader said the residents of Karak had the foremost right to gas produced in their area and that gas would be provided to every house in the district.

He said Kurram Tangi dam would be built to irrigate 350,000 acres of lands in Karak, Lakki Marwat, Bannu and North Waziristan.

He alleged that former provincial chief minister Akram Khan Durrani had been the main hurdle to the dam’s construction.

“Akram Durrani was the enemy of the southern districts of our province. His accountability will be made for blocking the dam’s construction by the federal government for five years,” he said.

Mr Anwar said the dam would irrigate 10,000 acres of land in Karak.

He claimed that he and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto had provided employment to 30,000 people in petroleum sector during the last PPP government. He said he was detained by a military dictator for providing jobs to the people.

“I’ll provide more jobs to my countrymen if I come to power again,” he said.

The PPP leader alleged that clerics participating in politics were cheaters and businessmen and those not doing so were true religious leaders.

He said restoration of peace was the government’s top priority and once that happened, the people’s problems would be resolved steadily.

ROOF CAVES IN: Three labourers were injured in Galishah area of Karak early on Wednesday when roof of a house, which was under construction, caved in.

Local residents pulled out the injured, Mehran, Imdad and Ashraf, from under the debris and shifted them to a nearby health centre.

However, they were referred to a hospital in Peshawar over critical condition.
