LAHORE, Oct 23: Two alleged robbers were killed in a ‘shootout’ with police shortly after they looted two people and injured another in Kahna area on Tuesday.

Model Town SP (Operations) Awais Malik told Dawn that two robbers, riding a bike, snatched a motorcycle from a man in Industrial Area and sped away.

The suspects, the SP said, then stopped a car occupied by journalist Ameen Bhatti and his wife near Abdullah Bin Umer seminary in Gajjumatta. They deprived Ms Bhatti of her purse. Police said the outlaws initially fired at the car.

The SP said the suspects then tried to stop another car and opened fire on it when the driver tried to speed away. As a result, 50-year-old Haji Liaqat was injured.

He said a Mohafiz Force team patrolling the area confronted the robbers, ensuing a crossfire in which both outlaws were killed. The SP said the dead robbers could not be identified so far.

Police shifted the bodies to Jinnah Hospital’s morgue for autopsy, while the injured was admitted to Lahore General Hospital.

ROBBERIES: Four robbers barged in the house of Zeeshan Azam in Burki police limits and escaped after looting cash and valuables worth Rs1.55 million.

Three robbers entered the house of John Charles in Rehman Park in Johar Town police limits and took away cash and valuables worth Rs350,000.

Two robbers entered Z M Pharmacy in Ali Block in Garden Town police limits and looted Rs200,000 and cell phones.

Two robbers waylaid Najam and his family in BB Block in Defence A police limits and deprived them of cash and valuables worth Rs300,000.

Similarly, two robbers stopped Mrs Humayun in Kashmir Block in Iqbal Town police limits and robbed her of cash and valuables worth Rs300,000.

As many as four robbers stopped Manzoor on Canal Road in Muslim Town police limits and snatched a sacrificial goat from him at gunpoint. He had purchased the goat from Harbanspura.
