Sir,One can see trucks dumping what seems like sewage west of a newly built supermarket on the Clifton beachfront. I see this every morning. This is an area where thousands of people from all over the city come with their families to enjoy the beach.

Is such activity allowed by the Environmental Protection Agency, the DHA and the Cantonment Board Clifton?

SNIR Karachi

Overhead bridge Sir, It is very difficult to cross the road at Malir Halt stop on foot. No one can cross either side as the road is always busy with traffic and there remains imminent danger of an accident if one crosses in a hurry.

It would be appreciated if the local administration would construct an overhead bridge near the Malir Halt stop for the convenience of pedestrians.

CBC’s response Sir, With reference to the letter titled ‘CBC tax deposits’ appearing in this column on Oct 8, the inconvenience caused to the taxpayers at the branch of National Bank of Pakistan located on the premises of the CBC is highly regretted.

The branch management has been taken on board to resolve these issues which mostly cropped up during the months of August and September. The suggestions given in the letter are appreciated.

The CBC is trying to ensure a better environment for its taxpayers henceforth.

ADIL RAFI SIDDIQUI Executive Officer

Cantonment Board Clifton Road blockages Sir, Every day I travel from my residence in Defence to my office on I.I. Chundrigar Road via the Mai Kolachi Road and it takes me 20 minutes. I therefore start at 8.35 in order to reach by 9am. However for the last many days I have to now find out at 7.30am if the Mai Kolachi Rd is open for lesser mortals like me. In case it is closed I have to start out at 8am so that I reach my office by 9am.

And if the road to the PIDC is also closed due to activity at the Chief Minister’s House then we have to take an even more circuitous route. If by a stroke of good luck the PIDC route is open, then also due to the strong inflow of traffic due to the diversion from different blocked roads it takes about one-and-a-half hour to move from Karachi Club to Shaheen Complex.

Finally, when one reaches the office fully drained, the very thought of what will happen in the evening starts bothering you. Is this fair for the people of Karachi? In such situations do we have a Plan B or will this keep on happening in the future? Thousands of people like me are facing this ordeal on a daily basis and there is no one to give us a solution.

It seems this whole exercise is conducted only to safeguard the American consulate, the Chief Minister’s House, the Governor’s House and Bilawal House. Is there no life beyond these four buildings? The entire city is disturbed because of these structures.

One wonders what the rationale was for the foreign minister — a highly demanding, full-time job — being assigned various other political responsibilities.
