LAHORE, Oct 18: The Federal Investigation Agency, the Shafiqabad police and a trademark and copyright protection services concern have confiscated pirated covers and sheets of textbooks being produced by the Oxford University Press.

The team raided Shahbaz Book Binding unit at Ganj Town Kallan, Bund Road and caught owners Shahbaz Rasheed and Malik Imran Naveed pirating the OUP textbooks. The police took them into custody and seized 12,000 pirated covers of Amazing Science Book 2 and 60,000 sheets worth Rs1.3 million.

The police sealed the binding unit and handed over the books to the OUP authorities until such time a court settlement would be reached. An FIR has been lodged against the perpetrators on the charge of book piracy, which constitutes a violation of the Copyright Laws of Pakistan.

An OUP spokesperson says such infringements of Intellectual Property Rights cause heavy losses to the publishing industry, the authors, the government and parents and pupils who are cheated into buying substandard, pirated books.

TRANSFERS: The inspector general of police has transferred and posted two police officers.

According to a notification issued on Thursday, Punjab Counter Terrorism Department SSP Imtiaz Ahmad Malik has been transferred and posted Punjab Investigation Branch SSP against an existing vacancy. Awaiting posting Mrs Nasim Chaudhry has been posted as Multan Punjab Highways Patrol SP against an existing vacancy.
