KARACHI, Dec 31: The Karachi University Teachers’ Society (Kuts) has expressed its shock at the press reports that the Model University Ordinance (MUO) will be enforced in the newly formed Urdu University.

The society said that it was contrary to the earlier announcement that the teachers would be consulted about the enforcement of the ordinance.

Kuts reiterated its stance that the government was following the dictates of the World Bank’s recommendations.

Kuts condemned government’s move to enforce the ordinance despite being rejected by the teachers and the students and demanded of the federal government, as well as the provincial governments to withdraw the World Bank-sponsored, anti-people MUO, which, the society feared, would lead to the ‘corporaisation’ of the education.—PPI
