Today marks the 74th birth anniversary of Pakistani film industry’s most esteemed hero, Waheed Murad, also know as the chocolate hero of the films. 

Murad was born on October 2, 1938. He was the star of 124 films where he performed in three different languages Urdu, Punjabi and Pushto, which earned him 32 prestigious awards from best actor to best producer.

Twenty seven years after his death, in November 2010 President Asif Ali Zardari awarded him with the Sitara-e-Imtiaz, the "star of excellence," an honour given for distinguished merit in the fields of literature, arts, sports, medicine, or science.

The glorious days of Pakistani cinema, when there was hardly any media boom with only one national channel and cinemas all over the country, Murad became the heartthrob of the nation with his subtle style of romance and good looks. His hair cut and way of dressing gained immense popularity amongst the youth of the country and South Asia.

He started his film career with the film “Aulad”, and there was no turning back after that. With his good luck and acting charms he gave many hits to the Pakistani cinema. With his performance on songs such as Akele Na Jana to Ko Ko Korina, he still remains in everyone’s mind.
