MUMBAI, Sept 27: Former India batsman Sandeep Patil will head a revamped national selection committee ahead of test tours by England and Australia.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made the announcement on Thursday after a meeting here during which it also picked Roger Binny, Vikram Rathore, Saba Karim and Rajinder Singh Hans to make up the five-member committee.
BCCI president Narainswamy Srinivasan says the board wants ‘a person of sufficient stature’ to be the chief selector and that Sandeep Patil, a member of the 1983 World Cup-winning team, ‘fits the bill.’
The selectors will have a minimum one-year term with a maximum of four years each.
Former India opener Krishnamachari Srikkanth headed the previous committee, in which Mohinder Amarnath, Narendra Hirwani, Raja Venkat and Surendra Bhave were the other members.—AP
