KARACHI, Nov 22: The Sindh government has decided to withdraw the notification of 14th August 2001 increasing and implementing intercity transport fares.

A regulatory commission would recommend future increase/decrease in transport fares in the city in future.

According to a press release issued here on Thursday, a delegation of transporters associations led by Irshad Bukhari called on provincial minister for transport, Dewan Mohammed Yusuf Farooqui, at his office on Thursday.

During the meeting, matters relating to transport and transport fares applicable in Karachi as well as in the interior of Sindh were reviewed.

The delegation sought one week’s time for consultations and assured reduction in transport fares for Karachi with consensus.

It was decided that a meeting in this respect would be convened at the office of the minister on Saturday 1st December, wherein a Regulatory Commission would be constituted which would recommend increase/decrease in transport fares for future.

Members of transporters associations apprised the meeting of various difficulties being faced by them including problems of bus terminals, restriction of minibus routes and unnecessary challans by the excise & taxation department.
