ISLAMABAD: Attorney General Irfan Qadir on Wednesday said the Supreme Court had accepted the constitutional clause granting immunity to the president, DawnNews reported.

Speaking to media representatives outside the Supreme Court, Qadir said the government would also refer to the president's immunity in the letter to Swiss authorities.

The attorney general said the letter that would be written to Swiss authorities would be in accordance with the Constitution.

Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf authorised Law Minister Farooq H Naek to withdraw the letter that led to the closing of a graft case against President Asif Ali Zardari.

The court has insisted that the letter, written by then attorney general Malik Mohammad Qayyum to the Swiss authorities, be withdrawn.

The government is expected to produce a draft of the letter requesting the withdrawal before the court by Sept 25.

Moreover, in his interaction with media representatives, the attorney general said that Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry should appear as a witness in the Arsalan Iftikhar case, adding that, one of India's chief justices had appeared in a magistrate's court in the past.
